Why Every Business Needs a Website in 2026

A social page is not a website. Here is what a website actually does for a business, what it costs, and what happens when you do not have one.

Most business owners who do not have a website are not against the idea. They are unconvinced. They have a Facebook page, customers who call, and a business that works. The website feels like an expense with no obvious return.

That instinct is reasonable, and it is usually wrong — but for a different reason than the one agencies normally give.

What a website actually replaces

A website is not advertising. It is the place customers go after something else made them curious: a recommendation, a van with your name on it, a Google search, a comment from a friend. At that moment they want three things, in this order:

  1. Is this a real business?
  2. Do they do the thing I need?
  3. How much, roughly, and how do I reach them?

If those three answers are not visible within about fifteen seconds, most people go back and check the next result. Not because your business is worse — because the next result answered faster.

Why a social page is not enough

A Facebook or Instagram page can do part of that job, and for some businesses it does it well. But it has three limits that matter:

  • You do not own it. Reach, layout and rules are decided by the platform, and they change.
  • It is organised by date, not by question. A price list posted eight months ago is effectively gone.
  • It is weak in search. When someone searches for what you sell, a social page rarely competes with a proper website.

A website solves those by being yours, structured, and readable by Google.

What it costs

Concrete numbers, from our published catalog:

  • A one-page website — from €390
  • A presentation website up to 5 pages — €590
  • Up to 10 pages — €890
  • A premium custom website — from €1,490

Plus the small yearly costs that keep it running: domain €15, hosting €99, professional email €30, SSL certificate €50, automatic backup €50.

For most small businesses the honest first step is the five-page site: home, services, prices, about, contact. It is enough to answer the three questions above, and it can grow later.

What to insist on

Whoever builds it, insist on four things:

  • The domain is registered in your name. Not the agency’s. This is the single most common way businesses get locked in.
  • It is fast on a phone. Most of your visitors are on one.
  • There is a way to contact you in one tap. A call button, a WhatsApp button, a short form.
  • You can change text and prices yourself, or you have someone on a maintenance plan who will do it within a day.

When you genuinely do not need one

If you sell entirely through a marketplace, have no local customers, and your margins depend on volume rather than trust, a website may not be your first priority — getting your marketplace listings right probably is. We will say so.

But if customers look you up before deciding, and they almost always do, then not being findable is a cost you are already paying. You just do not see the invoice.

They solve different problems. One gives you customers now and takes a commission; the other builds something you own. Most businesses need both, in a specific order.
